Lavaveix-les-Mines is perfectly situated in the heart of the Creuse, a department known for its "green" tourism, granite architecture, and quiet, rolling landscapes.

Sentier des Pierres Jaumâtres (Toulx-Sainte-Croix):

A mystical walk through giant, gravity-defying granite boulders perched on top of a hill. It’s about 40 minutes from Lavaveix.
The "Dolmen aux Fées" (Blessac/Aubusson):
Distance: ~7 km | Difficulty: Moderate
A forest trail just outside Aubusson leading to a prehistoric megalithic tomb (dolmen) and views of the Tranloup valley.
Rigole du Diable (Royère-de-Vassivière):
Distance: ~5-8 km | Difficulty: Moderate
A rugged, beautiful walk along the Thaurion river through a gorge filled with giant mossy boulders.
Etang des Landes Nature Reserve (Lussat):
Distance: Various loops | Difficulty: Very Easy/Flat
Perfect for birdwatching, this is the largest natural pond in Limousin and features several boardwalks and bird hides.
If you enjoy walking with a purpose, download the Tèrra Aventura app. It is a free, high-tech scavenger hunt (Geocaching) very popular in this region. There are "caches" in almost every village mentioned above, including Ahun and Aubusson, which lead you on a guided walk through the most interesting local landmarks.
Finding a good market is often the best way to see the "real" Creuse. Since you're in Lavaveix, you actually have one right on your doorstep on Thursdays!

Tip for July: Many villages will start their Marchés de Producteurs de Pays (Farmers' Night Markets) in July. You bring your own cutlery, buy meat/cheese/wine directly from the stalls, and eat at long communal tables. Keep an eye on the yellow posters appearing on the roadsides!
